Republic silver Proof Pattern "Barre Head" 4 Reales 1862 QUITO-(a) PR61 NGC, Paris mint, KM-Pn7. Reeded edge. By Barre. "9990" silver fineness. A rare Ecuadorian Pattern that, while citing a Quito mintage, was struck in Paris and displays a classic "Libertad" rendition from the French master engraver, Albert Désiré Barre. Though gently handled, the wholesome gray surfaces still contain enough glossy shine and opalescent undercurrent to be easily recognizable as a Proof-quality specimen. This is one of only three examples that populate the straight-graded census reports of both PCGS and NGC. All in all, a delectable South American treat that should be a hot item when it crosses the auction block. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
