Republic Hsu Shih-chang "Pavilion" Dollar Year 10 (1921) MS63 NGC, Tientsin mint, L&M-864, Kann-676, WS-0101. Reeded edge, with lower legend on reverse variety. Of magnificent quality for the type, showcasing an as-struck level of detail upon a bright and luminous argent planchet and producing a semi-Prooflike appearance. While the portrait of Hsu Shih-chang makes this issue instantly recognizable, it's the expertly engraved reverse design of the pavilion at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital that is most appreciable in departing from any contemporary Dollar design. Becoming increasingly difficult to locate meaningfully finer, we anticipate an elevated bidder response when crossing the auction block. HID09801242017 © 2023 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
