Republic Proof Peso 1868-So Proof Details (Obverse Brushed) NGC, Santiago mint, KM142.1, Elizondo-115. Hailing from the famed Farouk/Pittman set of Patterns previously auctioned by us in May, the piece at hand ranks among the most coveted issues not only from this denomination, but across Chilean numismatics in its entirety. In the King Farouk Sale, and later in the Pittman sale, this coin was housed in a presentation case, which also contained Proofs of the four other silver and four gilt-copper coins struck from 1867-1868. After buying the set John Pittman placed all of the coins in an NGC display case, and the original mint case was later lost. While the obverse displays characteristics consistent with NGC's conditional qualifier, the condor remains regal and slightly medallic, projecting the strength of the young nation to those who would view its coinage. A unique opportunity to acquire an exceptional piece. Ex. John J.
