Victoria Specimen Pattern "Reeded Edge" 20 Cents 1871 SP64 PCGS, London mint, KM-Unl., DC-50 var. (there in coin alignment). Reeded edge variety. Medal alignment. An alluring rarity and among the more coveted Patterns of Canadian origin, purported by Charlton to have been struck for exhibition for the Province of Canada and witnessed here with a curious combination, featuring both reeded edge and medal alignment last seen by us on the Prager example offered in 2014. Perfectly executed and dressed in fine die polish that serves to elevate the young portrait of Victoria to almost Cameo-appearances, the offering at hand all but impresses. A fine autumnal cabinet patina resides across the flashy devices lightly obscuring some trivial, grade-defining wisps yet contributing to an advanced visual character. This allure, coupled with a fine pedigree, will demand additional bidder consideration when crossing the auction block. Ex.
