Description

George III bronze "Death of Matthew Boulton" Medal 1809 MS64 Brown NGC, BHM-662, Eimer-1003. 41mm. Unsigned. Obv. Legend in three lines. Rev. Six-line inscription in wreath. Boulton was a manufacturer and business partner of James Watt. This type was struck at the Soho mint, which Boulton founded in Handsworth, West Midlands. 530 examples were gifted to funeral attendees at the parish church. Though simple in design, this specimen retains the freshness of a newly minted Medal. This is the only example registered at either grading service.
