Cooke was a tragic actor and comedian who was plagued by bouts of binge drinking and erratic behavior. Having become dissatisfied with the London press, he traveled to the United States, where he died in 1812 in New York City. Retaining full luster and possessing fine, original toning, the simple design of this bronze specimen benefits from its impressive level of preservation.
