Harthacnut Danish Issue Penny ND (1035-1042) AU Details (Peck Marked) NGC, Orbaek mint, S-1170, cf. Hauberg-54, cf. Hauberg Collection-82 (under Cnut the Great). 0.81gm. Degenerate bust left (?) with cross in place of facial features and group of four pellets to right / cross with crescents in angles. A peculiar Viking-era penny, often ascribed to the reign of Harthacnut, though Hede ascribed the issue to Cnut the Great (Knud den Store) in his catalog of Hauberg's collection. Boldly struck and patinated in a variety of earthen tones.
