Naples & Sicily. Ferdinand II lead Prova "Fine Arts Award" Medal ND AU Details (Edge Damage) NGC, Palermo mint, cf. D'Auria-198 (gold). 35mm. By Giuseppe Barone. FERDINANDO II. DELLE BELLE ARTI IN SICILIA PROTETTORE; facing left. No edge inscription, which on the purportedly unique gold piece from D'Auria reads PREMIO DI PITTURA AD ANDREA D'ANTONI DA PALERMO 1841. The obverse of this beautiful medal gives an indication of exceptional workmanship. The sculptured face of the King is represented in a very expressive manner, in particular the beard and hair have a finesse of execution typical of a great artist. Ex.
