These pieces were not intended as real coins but as medals, and were issued in gold, silver and copper. Privately purchased from La Numismatica Brescia, sold with their ticket. The Iron Crown of the first Holy Roman Emperor, Charlemagne, is held in the Cathedral at Monza, near Milan. The Coat of Arms on the left depicts the Biscione, or Vipera, a serpent in the act of consuming a human. The symbol was adopted as the insignia of the Visconti family, which ruled Milan from 1277.
