Description

Julius Caesar, as Dictator (49-44 BC). AR denarius (20mm, 4.05 gm, 2h). NGC Choice XF 4/5 - 4/5. Military mint traveling with Caesar in Spain, late 46-early 45 BC. Diademed and draped but of Venus left, Cupid at shoulder, dotted border / CAESAR, trophy of Gallic arms; dejected female seated right, bound male seated left, head reverted to gaze up at trophy, dotted border. Crawford 468/2. CRI 59. Sydenham 1015. RSC 14. Wonderful remnant detailing from sharply carved dies lends to bold devices despite gentle wear.
