Julius Caesar, as Dictator (49-44 BC). AR denarius (18mm, 3.76 gm, 11h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 - 4/5. Military mint traveling with Caesar in Greece, Apollonia, July 48 BC. Female head (Venus?) right, wearing pendant earring, necklace, stephane and oak wreath, hair bound in jeweled chignon at back of head; LII (Caesar's age=52) behind / CAE-SAR, trophy of Gallic arms and armor, with horned helmet, chainmail shirt, shield, and carnyx; securis left at right. Crawford 452/2. Sydenham 1009. Julia 26. Beautiful example with even toning on a lustrous flan. The LII=52 on obverse apparently indicates Caesar's age, thus struck after Caesar's fifty-second birthday on 13 July 48 BC.
