Description

JUDAEA. Bar Kokhba Revolt (AD 132-135). AR zuz (19mm, 3.34 gm, 7h). NGC AU 4/5 - 3/5. Undated issue of Year 3 (AD 134/5). Simon (Paleo-Hebrew), bunch of grapes in three lobes hanging from branch, tendrils to left and right / For the Freedom of Jerusalem (Paleo-Hebrew), kinnor (lyre) with three strings. GBC 6, 6462. GBC 5, 1435. The gentler strike permits glimpses of details from the host coin, while still offering relatively sharp Judaean designs. Overstruck on a Trajan drachm, with half of the reverse legend visible along the rim. The host coin is likely an issue of Bostra featuring Arabia (RPC III 4050).
