IONIA. Ephesus. Ca. 133-67 BC. AR cistophorus (27mm, 12.68 gm, 11h). NGC MS 4/5 - 4/5. Dated Civic Year 44 (91/90 BC). Serpent emerging from cista mystica; all within ivy wreath / Bow in bowcase ornamented with aphlaston, flanked by two serpents; serpent-entwined staff above, ME (date) above EΦE in left field, torch in right field. SNG Copenhagen 326. Brilliant fields of icy luster flashing across bold flow lines and crisp details.
