Description

IONIA. Uncertain mint. Ca. 600-550 BC. EL sixth-stater or hecte (12mm, 2.32 gm). NGC MS 4/5 - 4/5. Lydo-Milesian standard. Archaic, disjointed figure or head, possibly a lion or other animal / Incuse square punch with geometric peaks and valleys. Cf. Weidauer 119. SNG Kayhan 708-10 (Myshemihectes). SNG Berry 1029 all for types with lion head right. Muted harvest wheat flan. Interesting design worthy of further study, but appears to be a boar head right with bristles on snout and short tusk (oriented in holder with obverse at 5h).
