SICILY. Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny, Hieron I (ca. 475-470 BC). AR tetradrachm (25mm, 17.33 gm, 6h).NGC AU 5/5 - 3/5. Charioteer driving walking quadriga right, kentron in right hand, reins in left; Nike flying right above, crowning horses, dotted border / ΣVRAKΟΣ-ΙΟN (N retrograde), head of Arethusa right, wearing beaded taenia and necklace, hair looped up under band; four dolphins swimming clockwise around. HGC 2, 1307. Boehringer 227-278 and 293-355. Boasting gorgeous apricot toning throughout the recesses, this lustrous piece is beautifully rendered and a delight to behold.
