MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (17mm, 8.58 gm, 9h). NGC Choice MS 5/5 - 4/5. Lifetime issue of Tarsus, ca. 332/1-327 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in three thick corkscrew curls, wearing beaded necklace and triple crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short parallel crest ends, bowl decorated with griffin leaping right / AΛEΞANΔP-OY, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, ornate stylis cradled in left arm; kerykeion below wing in right field. Price 3458 (Sidon). Struck from high relief, fresh dies. Shimmering reverse and a halo of flashy luster around devices.
