Pedro II gold "'Azevedo' Below Bust" 6400 Reis 1832-R MS61 NGC, Rio de Janeiro mint, KM387.2, LMB-612, Guimaraes-1832-2a. First type, Azevedo F. Variety with branches apart from the shield. Mintage: 4,101. The first Mint State example we have handled from this fleeting variety where the engraver signed the dies, an uncommon occurrence in the Brazilian gold series. Highly lustrous in hand, with a radiant cartwheel effect across the crisp surfaces, prevented from a higher grade by few scattered wisps. Much scarcer than the 2nd type with no signature below bust, this offering is deserving of its "top pop" designation across both NGC and PCGS censuses. From the Petropolis Collection, Part III
