Description

MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.46 gm, 2h). NGC XF 5/5 - 2/5, scuffs. Posthumous issue of Babylon, under Seleucus I Nicator, ca. 311-305 BC. Head of Athena right, hair flowing loose and upswept at temple, wearing pendant earring, necklace, and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, short parallel crest ends, bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞANΔPOY / BAΣ-IΛEΩΣ, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; HYP monogram within wreath in left field below wing, MI in right field below wing. Price 3745. A regal portrait with sunny surfaces and relatively crisp devices for the grade.
