Spain Banco de Espana 100 Pesetas 11.3.1938 Pick 90r Remainder PMG Very Fine 25. This iconic design was printed by Thomas de la Rue for the Republican Front, which had relocated to Barcelona. "Dama de Elche" is one of the earliest icons in a long history of incredible Spanish art. When the Nationalists captured Barcelona (after taking Madrid) these notes were no longer needed, and remained unissued. Twenty million of these notes were printed for circulation, and it is believed nearly the entire stock was destroyed to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Nationalists. A scant few examples survived in a variety of unissued formats, like proofs and specimen. This remainder is lacking a signature and serial numbers and splits are noted for accuracy.
