Description

Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1801/797 NG-M MS61 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM58, Cal-1587, Onza-977 (Rare). An extremely rare and rather dramatic overdate in which the entire date 1801 was struck over the previous issue, 1797, the error clearly represented on this specimen. Largely unhandled with the scant mark and wisp, its peripheries glistening with residual luster and the entire planchet an appealing lemon-gold in color. Almost impossible to obtain in higher grades, the last example of this year we handled was graded AU53 and realized $7,200 hammer in our August 2019 sale. Accordingly, interest is sure to be greater for this finest certified representative.
