Description

JUDAEA. Bar Kokhba Revolt (AD 132-135). AR zuz (19mm, 3.33 gm, 7h). NGC MS 4/5 - 5/5, overstruck. Undated issue of Year 3 (AD 134/5). Simon (Paleo-Hebrew), bunch of grapes in three lobes hanging from branch, tendrils to left and right / For the Freedom of Jerusalem (Paleo-Hebrew), palm branch. GBC 6, 6457. GBC 5, 1430. TJC 281. Mildenberg 170. Pale blue, red, and lavender hues playfully accentuating the devices. From the New England Collection At 6h on the obverse there appears to be the remnants of a COS legend, leading one to suspect the host coin make be a denarius of Domitian based on the style and size of the letters.
