MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Philip III Arrhidaeus (323-317 BC). AV stater (17mm, 8.60 gm, 11h). NGC Choice MS 5/5 - 5/5. Lifetime issue of Sardes, ca. 323-319 BC. Head of Athena right, hair flowing loose below, wearing pendant earring, necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, long intersecting crest ends, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟY, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; AΘ monogram above race torch in left field. Price P108. Superbly struck example of this rare type with only four examples found in sale archives.
