Description

Frankfurt. Free City Proof 2 Taler 1866 PR64 PCGS, Frankfurt am Main mint, cf. KM365 (unlisted in Proof), Dav-651, AKS-4, Thun-145. Unquestionably rare in Proof, a finish which allows for an unencumbered appreciation of the type's well-known designs, seen here in a razor-sharp finish that gives the coin an indelibly medallic feel. Though not cameoed as are some specimens, the offering more than makes up for this in its colorful tone, fiery cobalt and magenta hues in the outer registers framing peach centers. From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
