Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. August II Taler 1638-(HS) MS64 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM393.1, Dav-6337, Knyphausen-7784, Welter-813. Exceedingly challenging quality for any entry in Brunswick's Wildman series, with most specimens being practically unimaginable in anything even approaching Gem Mint State. And yet we have the specimen here, which can only be regarded as a miracle of survivorship after already being minted by freshly prepared dies. Both faces gleam with bright luster, illuminating just lightly toned surfaces in a gripping visual display. Undoubtedly among the finest extant, with just two other 17th-century Talers from Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel having been certified finer by NGC, and those by just a point to a point and a half. Ex.
