Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. George III of England Taler 1778-IWS MS64 NGC, Clausthal mint, KM372, Dav-2107, Schön-335, Knyphausen-Unl., Welter-2801. Few coins below gem certification deserve the accolade of aesthetic perfection to such a degree as does this incredible 18th-century Hannoverian Taler. Available from just two dates with this bust style, George's portrait shows a wonderful youthful expression that is so often absent from the British engraving of the period, an artistry only heightened by the offering's incredible Prooflike characteristics, with watery iridescent color abounding over the planchet. Showing an utter paucity of examples having come to market in the last two decades, notably Brand contained only the 1777, while neither date was present in the Köhlmoos Collection. Museum quality in every single sense of the term, and almost unimaginable meaningfully finer. Ex. Grundy Collection (Heritage Auction #3004, January 2009, Lot 21115); Superior (December 1990, Lot 1570); William H. Bleyer Collection (Jess Peters Auction 111, December 1982, Lot 786) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
