Description

Brunswick-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover. Georg II August "Mining" Taler 1752-IBH MS65 NGC, Zellerfeld mint, KM292, Dav-2098, Schön-277 (under Hannover), Knyphausen-3244, Müseler-473, Welter-2562, Preussag Collection-1256. Celebrating the yield of the Cronenburgs Glück mine. The final date for what must be regarded as one of the most captivating mining Talers in the series--all the more so in this practically immaculate condition. Missing as a date from the Köhlmoos Collection and apparently altogether absent from Brand's holdings, even such prestigious cabinets as Preussag lacked anything close to this quality. Die polish beams from the hand of God emerging from the heavens, while each minute detail from the individual boughs of the pine trees to the shingles on the buildings of the mining settlement come fully expressed. It is particularly notable that of the extremely small number of certified examples, the next finest at both NGC and PCGS is a mere MS62. Quite simply museum quality at its finest, and sure to serve as the cornerstone to any significant assemblage of German coinage. Ex. Grundy Collection (Heritage Auction #3004, January 2009, Lot 21113) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
