Bavaria. Ludwig I "Royal Wedding" 2 Taler 1842 MS65 S Prooflike NGC, Munich mint, KM812.1, Dav-588, AKS-104, Thun-81. Variety with date as 12 OCTB. 1842 on edge. Commemorating the marriage of Crown-Prince Maximilian to Marie of Prussia. The coin which all others of this type and series want to be, its superiority of eye appeal and technical quality more than recognized by its added star and PL designation from NGC, a combination not recognized for a single other representative of the date in the population. While PCGS records a standard grade (non-Prooflike) MS67 at the peak of their census, the pictures on their website suggest only a hair's breadth between its visual quality and that of the coin seen here.
