Description

Anhalt-Dessau. Leopold Friedrich Proof Taler 1858-A PR64 Cameo PCGS, Berlin mint, cf. KM14 (unlisted in Proof), Dav-509, AKS-30, Thun-9, Mann-927. Among the better-known 19th-century Proofs within the German series, and yet, nevertheless, one that proves so utterly captivating that it is a wonder it was not awarded a "star" for outstanding eye appeal. The first date for Leopold Friedrich's Vereinstaler with a recorded mintage of just 26,808 pieces, a rich combination of merlot and violet overlays this specimen's surfaces, with a pull-away russet and pearl tone at the legends. At present, the sole example at PCGS, and only the second we have ever offered. Ex. Virgil Brand Collection, Part 4 (Leu Numismatik Auction 69, June 1997, Lot 3651) From the Cape Coral Collection of German Coins, Part I
