Theodosius I the Great, Eastern Roman Empire (AD 379-395). AV/AE fourrée solidus (20mm, 2.65 gm, 12h). NGC (photo-certificate) Choice AU 5/5 - 2/5, core visible, scratches. Ancient forgery of a solidus of Theodosius I from Constantinople, ca. AD 379-383. D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Theodosius I right, seen from front / CONCOR-DIA AVGGG Z, Constantinopolis enthroned facing on throne ornamented with lion heads, right foot on ship's prow, scepter in right hand, resting left on a shield inscribed VOT/V/MVLT/X; CONOB in exergue. Cf. RIC IX 47 for prototype.
