Description

Republic Yuan Shih-kai "Plumed Hat" Dollar ND (1916) MS64 NGC, Tientsin mint, KM-Y332, L&M-942, Kann-663, Chang-CH223, WS-0097. Struck for the inauguration of Yuan Shih-kai as Emperor Hung-hsien. Quality which most collectors only dream of encountering for what is one of the Republic of China's most treasured commemoratives, and perhaps the last "attainable" grade for an issue which rapidly becomes prohibitively expensive in technically finer states. Containing a charming silhouetting peripheral mottling of tone, this acts both as an enticing framing device for the central motifs, all while creating a natural border to the coin's abundant cartwheel luster. Even powerful magnification allows the viewer to detect few serious marks, confirming that this is a truly top-tier representative.
