Republic Yuan Shih-kai Dollar Year 3 (1914) MS65 PCGS, KM-Y329, L&M-63, Kann-645, WS-0174-8. Yuan connected (Triangle Yuan) variety. Carefully embossed from a firm strike, rendering an especially strong relief to the denomination on the reverse, in stark contrast to the weak features which often characterize the type. While some of the traditional softness remains in the president's bust (particularly in his hair and epaulette), one must yet marvel at how such a widely circulating issue managed to survive the past century without accumulating hardly any signs of handling. Further overlaid in a somewhat darker bull's-eye tone on the obverse, which lightens to reveal notes of turquoise and seafoam on the reverse, and a through-and-through gem piece.
