Struck in the Minas Gerais province of Vila Rica, where the Portuguese extracted most of the Brazilian gold, this short-lived issue departed from the duodecimal system that included 12,800 Réis coin as its largest denomination. A popular type, showing chiseled devices over lustrous and somewhat reflective fields, making it very sharp for the grade.
