The opening year of the Rio de Janeiro mint, represented here by a crisp example with sharply-struck devices upon lustrous, semi-reflective fields. Though the overdate 1699/5 is recorded, utilizing old Bahia 1695 dies, the coin here suggests that this may be a re-punch of the last "9".
