Santo Domingo. Ferdinand & Isabella (1474-1504) Real ND (from 1505)-S XF Details (Damaged) NGC, Seville mint, KM0013, Cal-443, Cay-2694, Gomez-3. Among the earliest Spanish colonial types minted for use in the Americas, coins such as this were ordered by Ferdinand V (the Catholic) on April 15, 1505, with the shipment received in Santa Domingo in December of that year by governor Nicolás de Ovando. Minorly scratched over both sides, it is notable that the coin has not lost any of its detail on account of this damage, retaining an on the whole attractive and full strike. The first example of the type we have offered in over 7 years, and one seldom found on auction. Ex. CNG Auction 57 (April 2001, Lot 1606)
