Philip V gold Cob Escudo 1740/39-M MS62 NGC, Santa Fe de Nuevo Reino mint, KM22 (Rare), Cal-1778, cf. Oro Macuquino-184 (overdate unlisted), Restrepo-M78.12. 3.39gm. A rare dated gold Cob of this period in its own right, let alone as an overdate, for which we have been unable to locate any other specimens having come to auction in the last several decades. Altogether missing from the Gebauer and Eldorado collections, this piece shows good surface luster in spite of its crude strike, with the addition of a full date certainly adding a level of appeal not often found on this smaller denomination.
