Exceedingly scarce as a type evidenced by the sheer paucity of examples to appear at auction in recent decades. Gadoury only notes examples from this issue as Flan Reforme, denoted by a rosette below the young king's bust. Notably lacking here, Duplessy notes he is uncertain of Flan Neuf examples existing. Here we have such an example featuring charcoal appearances gently obscuring a lightly granular surface that hosts surprisingly crisp engraved details capped by trivial instances of handling. Sure to entice the French specialist.
