Description

Philippe IV (1285-1314) gold Agnel d'Or ND (from 1311) AU53 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-258, Ciani-199, Dup-212. 4.07gm. Emission from 26 January 1311. + AGn DI QVI TOLL' PCCA MVDI MISЄRЄRЄ nOB' (without stops), nimbate Agnus Dei left, head right, a long cross with banner behind; Ph RЄX in exergue below / +XP'C • VInCIT • XP'C • RЄGNAT: XP'C • IMPЄRAT (annulet and double annulet stops, the annulet before IMPERAT appears to contain a pellet), cross fleurée within quadrilobe with lis in spandrels. A handsome, lightly circulated example of this beloved type, with this being only the third example from this reign we have offered. Rub appears almost entirely confined to the highpoints, which keeps from blending the finer features of the design together.
