Anonymous gold Florin d'Or ND AU Details (Cleaned) NGC, cf. Fr-37a (under Italy). 3.35gm. +FLOR | ЄXΛA, stylized lily / S • IOHΛ | NNES • B • (eagle's head), St. John the Baptist nimbate and mantled, standing facing, scepter in left hand, raising right in benediction. A peculiar imitative Florin type, variously attributed to Florent of Hainaut, Charles le Mauvais of Evreux, and Gui VI of Elincourt, although its exact origin is still not agreed upon. Despite the noted cleaning, this piece has been well-centered and finely executed with squared-off legends that have experienced mild wear.
