Description

Umberto I gold 50 Lire 1888-R MS63 NGC, Rome mint, KM25. Only the second example that we have offered of this date, and also the finest, edging out the prior (MS62) example that we sold nearly five years ago for an all-in price of $5,640 (Heritage Auction #3054, April 2017, Lot 31001). Impressively, this is one of two such examples on offer in this sale, with this particular piece bordering on the finest certified to date, exceeded by only two MS63 "plus" examples across the combined NGC and PCGS censuses. Positively beaming with jewel-like luster and expressing antique-gold iridescence against exactly struck features, this top offering should be met with considerable bidder interest.
