Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Ca. 405-400 BC. AR tetradrachm (26mm, 17.14 gm, 5h). NGC Choice VF 4/5 - 3/5. Unsigned dies by Eucleidas, ca. 400 BC. Charioteer driving unruly galloping quadriga left, kentron in right hand, reins in both hands; Nike flying right above to crown charioteer; grain stalk left in exergue / ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙ-Ω-N, head of Arethusa left, wearing hoop earring and pearl necklace with small pendant, hair restrained with an ampyx and at back of head in an sphendone decorated with stars; four dolphins swimming around.
