Netherlands New Guinea Nieuw-Guinea 500 Gulden 2.1.1950 Pick 10s Specimen PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ. A desirable highest denomination type from the first series of notes, examples are most likely either extremely rare or unknown in issued format. Netherlands New Guinea was hotly contested land after World War II and was the host of years of colonial fighting in the 1950s and early 1960s, until Indonesia finally wrested control of the area from the Dutch. A 500 Gulden banknote represented quite a large sum of money, hence the insurmountable task of acquiring an issued example. This beauty is the second finest of only three graded examples in the PMG Population Report at the time of cataloging. Red overprints are seen on both sides. Very rare and missing from many collections.
