Description

Republic Sun Yat-sen "Birds Over Junk" Dollar Year 21 (1932) UNC Details (Stained) NGC, KM-Y344, L&M-108, Kann-622. A coin whose assigned designation seems to do a disserve to its generally pleasing visual appeal. Compared to the harsher grade modifiers such as cleaning or tooling, this piece contains just a slight darkening of its mottled patina over contained regions of the planchet, offering a special visual character while hardly hampering the movement of the eye over the surfaces. The strike remains definitively strong and exacting, residual luster residing in the outer registers while stray marks appear few and far between. All-in-all, a still appreciable specimen, and likely a more attainable version of a type that remains prohibitively expensive in upper Mint State grades.
