Description

Republic Tuan Chi-jui Dollar ND (1924) MS66 NGC, Tientsin mint, L&M-865, Kann-683, Chang-CH244, Shanghai Museum-691, WS-0107, Wenchao-886 (rarity 2 stars), Shi Jiagan Collection-Unl. Commemorating Tuan Chi-jui's taking office as the provisional Chief Executive of the Republic of China while abolishing the presidency, and the peaceful unification of China. Incredible to say the least, this virtually immaculate one-year type will come as a clear trophy to all connoisseurs of the Republican series familiar with Tuan Chi-jui's iconic Dollars. Usually a far-cry even in Choice Mint State, the present superb gem offering very nearly presses the bounds of perceivable quality for the issue, seeing a paltry 3 survivors that have been graded just a point or two finer. Essentially flawless in presentation both from an arm's length and under carefully scrutiny, as the eye sweeps over the surfaces, the viewer can instantly appreciate the coin's essentially Specimen-like characteristics. Light mirroring occupies both the obverse and reverse surfaces, its sharp rims and careful engraving making it plain to see why several references refer to this issue as a Pattern. Interestingly, the type was absent from the famous holdings of Shi Jiagan (donated to the Shanghai Museum), while one of the nicer of Irving Goodman's coins was a mere MS64 by comparison. Simply a must for the connoisseur, and one of the nicest available.
