Republic Sun Yat-sen "Upper Five-Pointed Stars/No Dot Below Ear" Memento Dollar ND (1927) MS63 PCGS, KM-Y318.1 var. (1912; dot below ear), L&M-48 (1928), Kann-600, WS-0158 var. (1927; dot below ear), Wencho-891 var. (1927; same) Five-pointed upper stars, without dot below ear variety. Founding of the Republic commemorative. A very difficult type to procure in choice grades, and almost entirely free of the usual striking uneveness that plagues the series, with a faintly golden luster and fine die polish still observable in the fields. Interestingly unrecorded as a subvariety in the Illustrated Catalogue of Chinese Gold & Silver Coins or Dong Wenchao's An Overview of China's Gold & Silver Coins of Past Ages.
