Republic Sun Yat-sen 20 Cents (2 Chiao) Year 16 (1927) MS65 PCGS, Fuzhou mint, KM-Y340, L&M-847, Kann-606. A beloved commemorative and one of the few Republican types to feature a facing portrait of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, this brilliant Gem Mint State survivor stands at a level seldom witnessed for the issue, a fact supported by the presence of just two finer specimens in the PCGS census. Even close scrutiny reveals a modicum of serious contact, certainly situating the offering on the upper end of its assigned certification. Tinged with accents of champagne tone, we would note that this is by far the finest we have offered, with the Newman specimen ranking as an MS63, while the Norman Jacobs piece, by comparison, was an MS64.
