Q. Titius (90 BC). AR denarius (19mm, 3.67 gm, 7h). NGC Fine, brushed, scratches. Rome. Head of male right, hair bound with winged diadem / Q•TITI on inscribed tablet from which Pegasus springing right. Crawford 341/1. Sydenham 691. Titia 1. Crawford notes on p. 346 "I do not know what the head on 1 is (there are no good grounds for regarding it as that of Mutunus Tutunus, so rightly Roscher ii, 207 [the identification goes back to Ch. Lenormant, Nouvelle galerie mythologique, 12, and is based on the mistaken view that the ass's head which occurs as a symbol on 4d is a winged phallus.])" Despite this, most catalogers continue to describe the obverse as Mutinus Titinus or Priapus, without any support.
