Description

ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 2nd-1st centuries BC. AR tetradrachm (32mm, 16.98 gm, 12h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 4/5. New Style issue, 151/0 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a vine scroll, Pegasus above upturned cheek flap decorated with a bird (?), protomes of five horses above visor / A-ΘE, owl standing facing on overturned amphora inscribed with E (month); AP monogram above terminus of Hermes right, with caduceus in left hand, all in left field, MPT monogram in right field, all within wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 89-90 (183/2 BC).
