Description

Charles IV gold 8 Escudos 1803 So-FJ MS64 NGC, Santiago mint, KM54, Cal-1773, Onza-1174, MC-25. A type which is typically unattainable in this level of preservation, only 2 single pieces certifying higher than this specimen, while the date was entirely missing from the Eliasberg and Millennia collections, and the Caballero de las Yndias piece was a mere AU58. Seemingly struck from a somewhat rusty obverse die, this offering possesses a superb satin finish and few notable marks, leaving an example that is laudable from all angles. The nicest specimen to come to auction in decades and worthy of a premium bid as such. Ex. Norweb Collection (Spink America March 1997, Lot 156)
