Nueva Granada 8 Reales 1840 BOGOTA-RS MS64 NGC, Bogota mint, KM98, Elizondo-25, Restrepo-194.3. A type most often encountered in lower states of preservation, this near-Gem Mint State stunner is accompanied by all one would hope to see with this fleeting issue. Fully struck-up details, typically lacking in the condor's wing feathers but wholly apparent here, glisten as mint brilliance sweeps across the coin's face, emboldened by significant originality and light pastel iridescence. A handsome outlier by five whole grade points for the date at NGC and PCGS, and tied for the finest with one other MS64 for the entire "Culebrilla" series. Ex. R.L. Lissner Collection (CNG-St. James's Auction 29, August 2014, Lot 1453); Purchased from M.T.B in December 1978
