Kiangnan. Kuang-hsü Dollar ND (1898) XF Details (Surface Hairlines) NGC, Nanking mint, KM-Y145.1, L&M-210A, Kann-66d, WS-0787. Herringbone (Ornamental) edge. Variety with single stroke in Sheng (province) and barely visible crossbars in A's in "KIANG NAN." An elusive emission in all grades and one that has been offered with more frequency and success in recent years as we witness Details designated coins garnering substantial sums at auction. The current specimen is quite successful in both its design and execution, the notable herringbone edge and styled rim decorated with diminutive clouds and perfectly framing the carefully engraved legends and whimsical dragon. Uniformly argent and lightly frosted surfaces demonstrate trivial instances of handling, notably to the dragon's scales and exaggerated facial features, while hairlines populate both obverse and reverse as affirmed by NGC's designation. Regardless of these imperfections, the present example should garner significant interest and elevated bidding.
